State Fund in Our Communities

2017 Community Events

State Fund encourages our employees to have a positive impact in our communities. Participating in activities that promote positive social and environmental change in the communities where we do business is a vital investment in our employees and the future of our state.

Committed to volunteerism, giving and sustainability, our CSR team sponsors socially–conscious initiatives in an effort to improve our world.

We do this through volunteer efforts, donations of time, money, and goods, and by promoting social and environmental well-being. We are aware of the impact we have on our communities, and we acknowledge our responsibility to help make them a better place to live and work.

State Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility program celebrates and coordinates various events involving volunteering, giving, supporting the work/life balance, and sustainability throughout the year such as:

Volunteering

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is all about coming together to build stronger, more diverse and responsible communities through service. We create stronger bonds with our community partners and with one another through hard work. State Fund provides employees with multiple opportunities to volunteer in their community during this week.

State Fund employees displayed their true colors during National Volunteer Week, demonstrating the same sense of spirit and generosity they bring every day to their job. Marking our fourth year of participation, this national event is always an employee favorite, and 2017 year was our most successful to date.

  • 19 State Fund offices participated.
  • 65 non-profit organizations were served.
  • 1,700 State Fund team members took part.
  • 5,100 volunteer hours were donated.

From Redding to Rohnert Park to Sacramento to San Diego—we did it all, from packing produce to cleaning up parks, and we did it with a smile.

Giving

Blood Drives

We are generous blood donors and are proud of our efforts to help replenish the vital supply of blood in our communities. Every year we partner with local carriers to host spring and fall blood drives, and during 2017, our employees donated 469 pints of blood to local clinics and hospitals.

Our Promise Campaign

Our Promise provides state employees throughout California with the opportunity to contribute to a charity of their choice through payroll deduction.

In 2016, State Fund employees pledged a grand total of $156,621.32 to numerous non-profit programs throughout the state, ranking us as the number one contributor among all boards and commissions, and number eight among all state agencies.

Holiday Drives

During the holiday season, we gather our efforts, hearts and goods to help those in need and spread the values of the season: love and unity.

Our offices hold a variety of drives that cater to important causes in our local communities. We aim to see the best in each other during this beautiful time of year.

#GivingTuesday

Established in 2012 through a joint effort of the United Nations Foundation and the 92nd Street Y, #GivingTuesday is a response to what many see as the over-commercialization of the post-Thanksgiving season with a day of giving. #GivingTuesday is held on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and brings much needed donations to local charities and also offers organizations like ours the opportunity to donate with the gift of time and much needed items. In 2017, we decorated over 4,500 Notes of Hope for cancer survivors in partnership with American Cancer Society and kicked off supply drives on this global day of giving.

Strategic Alliance

State Fund has joined with The American Cancer Society and Kids Chance of California to create a charitable alliance. This direct partnership gives us the opportunity to deepen our relationship with two organizations who share our commitment to making a difference.

The American Cancer Society has been one of the leaders in the fight against cancer for more than 100 years.

Established in 2011, Kids Chance of California is a non-profit organization providing scholarships to children of California workers fatally or seriously injured on the job.

As part of our alliance we made cash donations to these organizations. We also encourage our employees to participate in American Cancer Society events such as Relay for Life and Making Strides against Breast Cancer. State Fund for the Cure!

Family

State Fund Kids @ Work

Investing in our kids to “insure” a better tomorrow.

At State Fund, we love the role we play in shaping our future generations. By spending time at work with family members, State Fund children explore real life experiences and career options, and gain insight into their parents’ work life. State Fund children participate in various activities at our offices including team building exercises, scavenger hunts, creating vision boards, and interactive time at their parents’ desk.

In 2017, we hosted more than 530 children at 13 of our campuses throughout California. The children learned about the operations of State Fund and about their parents’ roles in the company. They participated in many creative and career-driven activities, and based on these kids, our future looks promising!

Gratitude

Veterans Day/Operation:Clean

We are deeply proud of all State Fund team members who have served our country. To honor our courageous veterans, we hold appreciation events to recognize the service and sacrifices they’ve made. We gather to hear the thoughts of our veterans and strengthen the bonds we build at State Fund. In 2017, we kicked off Operation: Clean: a toiletry drive for homeless veterans. More than 7,500 items were collected across 12 offices and donated to various Stand Down locations throughout California.

State Fund Sustainability

Earth Day

State Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility team posed a question for Earth Day: Can you do one thing to help the planet? Six hundred and forty four of our employees said yes, as State Fund participated in the global "Do One Thing" campaign.

Stemming from the idea that small steps can make a big impact, the campaign encourages you to take one action to help make the world a better place.

In the week leading up to Earth Day, we encourage State Fund team members to each “Do One Thing” to help reduce our environmental impact. The collaborative impact of small contributions shapes our world, just like every single leaf shapes and gives life to a tree. Some of our employees pledged to shop local for more fresh fruits and vegetables and use an ol’ fashioned push lawn mower to cut down on noise, pollution, and fumes.

2016 Community Events

Stemming from the idea that small steps can make a big impact, the campaign encourages you to take one action to help make the world a better place.

5/6/2015

More than 300 State Fund employees brought their children to work on April 23, 2015 for Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day.
Volunteers at many State Fund locations organized the day’s events as an opportunity for employees to share with their children the importance of the work they do, and to support a positive work/life balance for all employees.
Preparing meals and serving lunches, packaging food items, sorting gently used merchandise, helping with fundraising activities, and caring for abandoned animals, this year’s volunteers did a little bit of everything at about 70 different charitable organizations across our state.

Blood Drives Are Big Success
6/15/2015

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, according to the American Red Cross. And because of its limited shelf life, replenishing the community blood supply is a constant. Many State Fund employees have answered the call to help by donating blood during the first two State Fund sponsored blood drives in 2015. Donors gave 126 pints of blood in January and 191 more pints in May.

Holiday Donation Drives
November/December 2015

Eight State Fund offices conducted a total of 15 collection drives, resulting in 18 boxes of clothes, 39 coats, approximately 500 toys and other gifts, more than 1000 pounds of food, 25 boxes of supplies to benefit veterans, various school supplies, and donations to benefit a community animal shelter.
