State Fund Board Member William (Bill) Zachry has been awarded the 2014 Risk Manager of the Year Award by Business Insurance Magazine at the Denver Risk & Insurance Management Society meeting.
Zachry has served as a member of the State Fund Board of Directors since 2009 and is a member of the Board’s Audit Committee. He currently serves as Vice President of Risk Management for Safeway, Inc. and previously served as Safeway’s Vice President of Corporate Workers’ Compensation from 2001 to 2008.
The Manager of the Year Award recognizes risk management professionals and their outstanding programs and performance. Mr. Zachry is a respected opponent of abuse and fraud in the workers’ compensation system. He has lectured at numerous industry conferences sharing tips with employers and carriers on how to take steps to mitigate the existing fraud and abuse problems. In recent years his expertise played roles in the development and implementation of California workers' compensation legislation and regulations in the areas of risk management, medical cost containment, and focused utilization review.
The award was presented on April 29, 2014 by the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS), Inc. at its annual Conference and Exhibition in Denver, Colorado. RIMS is a membership organization whose mission is to advance risk management for the success of other organizations through membership, education, and networking. It has 82 chapters: 68 in the United States and 10 in Canada.
