Eight Steps to an Injury & Illness Prevention Program

August 27, 2020

State Fund has been helping to make California workplaces safe for more than 100 years. The path to workplace safety begins with an effective, compliant Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) in writing, which is accessible to all employees. Many employers are unaware that state law mandates an IIPP, and end up with a citation from Cal/OSHA, the most frequent of workplace violations.

State Fund’s IIPP BuilderSM is a new free online tool available to all California employers, designed to help create a safety plan for their businesses. From responsibility for the plan to record keeping, the builder guides users through each of the eight parts of an IIPP, asking questions about their current safety plans along the way. The employers’ answers help build the program and tailor it specifically to their businesses.

An effective IIPP is not just a means to meeting the Cal/OSHA regulation. It’s the document that literally spells out how employers intend to keep their employees safe and productive on the job.
