RIVERSIDE, CA.—State Compensation Insurance Fund (State Fund), California’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, hosted a groundbreaking event at their Riverside location on July 22, 2021 to kick off construction of the Southern California portion of their statewide sustainability and solar energy project.
The Riverside solar installation includes more than 900 kilowatts of solar arrays, 20 electric vehicle charging stations and an energy storage system, and is projected to generate more than 1,640,000 kWh annually. Over 20 years, it’s estimated that the Riverside installation will offset more than 22,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases, the equivalent of removing nearly 5,000 gas vehicles from the road or powering more than 2,600 homes for one year.
The Riverside solar installation is part of State Fund’s broader statewide environmental plan, with construction currently underway in Vacaville, Pleasanton, Redding, Fresno, Bakersfield and Sacramento. The entire California portfolio of solar projects is projected to produce 311 GWh over 20 years, enough to power more than 26,500 homes for one year or reduce CO2 emissions equal to removing 48,000 gas vehicles from the road. The project was designed and constructed by ENGIE Services U.S. Inc., an affiliate of ENGIE North America Inc. and JLL.
