Free State Fund Seminar on Office Ergonomics Scheduled for March 5-6 in Monterey Park

February 07, 2008

MONTEREY PARK/SAN FRANCISCO—State Compensation Insurance Fund is hosting a two-day seminar/workshop on office ergonomics as part of State Fund’s Employer Education Series. Offered only to current State Fund policyholders and at no charge, this workshop is designed to help employers recognize and react to ergonomic mismatches in their office. Informative sessions present ergonomics as a process that employers can experience as they develop their own ergonomics program of worker awareness, risk-factor identification, and cost-effective solutions. Two board-certified ergonomists will share their knowledge and expertise with attendees on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6, in State Fund’s Monterey Park Policy Services Office.

Both featured speakers—R.J. Banks, who supervises the Ergonomics Services Unit of State Fund’s Safety and Health Services Department, and Kristy Schultz, an ergonomics consultant at State Fund—hold MS, CIE designations and are members of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Attendees benefit from the professional presentations as they learn to:

  • Understand the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in the office environment.
  • Gain a working knowledge of the ergonomics problem-solving process.
  • Apply ergonomic intervention strategies to common office problems.
  • Develop an ability to present a customized office ergonomics training program.
  • Provide assistance and be a resource to employees so they can be partners in solving their office ergonomics issues.

In addition, attendees receive State Fund’s acclaimed CD, Ergonomics: How May We Help You?, with training on how to use it.

The workshop, which requires a full two-day commitment, will take place at State Fund’s Monterey Park Policy Services Office, 900 Corporate Center Drive, Monterey Park, on Wednesday, March 5, from 8:30 a.m. (for on-site registration) until 4:30 p.m., and Thursday, March 6, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be served both days. Free parking is available.

Seating is limited, so State Fund encourages early registration. Individuals must register separately, either online, or by e-mail (officeergo@scif.com), phone (call Cathy Ibarra at (323) 266-5305), or fax (Attention: Cathy Ibarra (323) 526-2181).
