Seminar Highlights Liability of Multi-Employer Jobsites in San Francisco March 25

March 04, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO – State Compensation Insurance Fund will sponsor a specialized seminar “Liability Concerns of Multi-Employer Jobsites” in San Francisco March 25. The seminar, which is free to State Fund policyholders, is designed to show employers the potential liability involved when they work at another employer’s jobsite, or have contractors who work at their place of business.

As a result of recent court decisions, the liability for all employers has increased due to enforcement of the Cal-OSHA Multi-Employer Job Site regulations. The seminar will help attendees recognize the potential liability that is involved, as well as the importance and elements of a Contractor Pre-Qualification Program.

In addition, the important differences between an ‘Independent Contractor versus an Employee’ will be addressed. Other seminar topics include the basics of statutory employment, and how to get a written determination on an employment relationship.

Paul Gantt, President of Safety Compliance Management, Inc. – a firm that provides occupational health and safety services – will speak at the event. Mr. Gantt is a Certified Safety Professional and an expert on Multi-Employer Jobsites. Also speaking is Cynthia Anderson, Employment Development Department, who brings 25 years of payroll tax experience and expertise to the seminar.

The seminar will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Milton Marks Conference Center Auditorium (basement level), 455 Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco.  Registration and complimentary continental breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m.  To register, please call Gina Fullon at (925) 523-5265. To register via email, please email gffullon@scif.com.

The San Francisco seminar is part of a series of educational programs State Compensation Insurance Fund is holding throughout the state in order to help employers create safe workplaces.  State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers’ compensation insurance carriers.
